Massage Therapy & Registered Therapists

Massage Therapy in North York, Toronto

Downsview Chiropractic has been providing effective massage therapy to clients in Toronto since 1985. When used in conjunction with our Chiropractic treatment, or as a standalone service, massage therapy can provide many benefits for a variety of physical and mental issues.

Some of the main things that we use massage therapy to relieve are:

  • Athletic injuries
  • Chronic back pain
  • High stress

How does massage therapy work?

Using a range of techniques that focus on the muscles and surrounding tissues, massage therapy is both a science and an art. By targeting specific areas, it can help to reduce stress, relieve aches and pains, and promote healing.

There are many different techniques that are used, each with a specific desired result. Some techniques may be simply relaxation focused, where others are more therapeutic, and can achieve goals like spine adjustment, drainage of the lymphatic system, and more. This is why the distinction between Registered Massage Therapists (RMT) and “masseuse”, is so crucial.

What is a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT)?

Becoming a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) generally requires enrolling in a 6 semester long program at an accredited school, and maintenance of a regulatory college membership. This differs from a masseuse in that a masseuse does not require membership with the regulatory college, and may or may not require any formal education.

At Downsview Chiropractic, all of our massage therapists are RMTs, meaning that you will receive targeted care that is based on proven methods from an accredited therapist, every time. Registered Massage Therapy is often an insured service with extended health benefits, while a masseuse is not.
