Low back pain is persistent and recurrent. It’s like that one family member who visits every year around the holidays…
This study examined the utility of maintenance care for the ongoing treatment of recurrent low back pain and found that chiropractic care is very effective at “flattening the curve” of LBP.
“…treatments performed by chiropractors have been found to be effective in reducing pain intensity and disability for patients with LBP and are recommended in current practice guidelines.”
While maintenance care (receiving care at regular pre-planned intervals regardless of symptoms) may not apply to every patient, for those with recurrent symptoms that respond well to their initial course of care, maintenance can be a powerful strategy at reducing their pain level and contributing to a higher functional ability.
“Chiropractic maintenance care reduces the number of days of bothersome pain within each new LBP episode among patients classified as dysfunctional. Maintenance care stabilizes the clinical course and increases the number of pain-free weeks between episodes.”
